When is the first ultrasound?

We can imagine that you are very curious and would like an ultrasound as soon as possible to see if everything is going well. An early ultrasound is possible from 6 weeks of pregnancy (calculated from the first day of your last menstrual period). However, it’s best to do this ultrasound at 7-8 weeks. Just because until then the chance of having a miscarriage is still very real and the ultrasound can give false reassurance or joy. During the (internal) early scan they check the heartbeat of the baby, if the pregnancy is in the right place in the uterus and whether there are twins or multiples. An early ultrasound costs €50 and can be booked online at our ultrasound center Echo Amsterdam

What food should I avoid when pregnant?

It is of course important to eat and live healthy. On the internet you can find a lot of info about what you can and cannot eat when you are pregnant, however it can sometimes be contradictive with each other. That is why we have listed everything for you here. It is also important to start taking folic acid, if you have not yet started taking it. Folic acid reduces the risk of an open back, an open skull, cleft lip or open palate in the baby.

How do you feel?

Some women don’t feel any pregnancy symptoms and others were already nauseous and tired before taking a test. Your symptoms say nothing about the chance of a healthy pregnancy. The most common complaints are tired, nauseous, breast tenderness and mood swings. Check the link for tips & tricks for pregnancy complaints.

How does the baby develop in the first weeks?

How high is the chance of having a miscarriage?
